THE DOCTOR'S CUSTOM TITLES - Part 3

Here are some titles I worked on with the help of the gurus at the MovieMaker forum

A sample clip is on the right and the image can be saved from the left [it is actually 640 x 480] - Normal deal to copy paste .xml code [below] to NotePad and the custom title should appear in MM2 once you restart. By "normal deal" I mean please refer to Papa John's or other Tutorials for more specific details if you have not done this before.

For all these, except the Clapboard Title at the end, the sequence is as follows to make the title in your movie [in fact it is 2 titles in one]

1. Make a title [Title #1] using this [drivein etc] options with blank space [ie advance Space Bar one space] on BOTH lines for "no text". So MM will put this in front of your first clip, so you drag it down to "overlays" and make sure it is aligned at zero. It is 8 secs as default and I have left it as that in the examples [but you can drag it to what you choose]. The "mechanics" of Title #1 are copied directly from the Newspaper Tile, ie the spin and final zoom, albeit I needed to play around in both cases to position the image in the correct [non Newspaper] location in making the custom .xlm file.

2. Then do the same again [Title #2] but this time select the one-line "basic" title in MM and this time leave it in front of the first clip. I think it is default 4 seconds but I have stretched it to 10 seconds in the examples [which is why you still get 2 secs of title after the other one has zoomed to full screen]

Finally then the initial movie clip is "ramped" back over Title #2, to the 2 sec mark [which is why the content is showing through already once the initial spin effect is over], and of course the user can vary that also

This one is "Variations on a Barn Door" and the code below is directly from Blaine's Transition called Barn Doors [you need to download the "gradient" called barndoors.jpg from Blaine]

What I have done is to use it [with a REAL Barn Door I found on Google] as part of start and end titles/credits. It starts with a basic "one line" title and I used the enter/exit from the sides one to mimic doors as an overlay for the image barn.jpg which you can save from below. The image and overlay are both 6 seconds, and the video clip is dragged back 3 seconds over the door. This allows doors to fully open with the title momentarily on the video but then appearing to follow the doors at each side.

Then at the end I do a simple fade from the video back to the door [1 sec] and then copy the title overlay [but change text to Credits]. Then Blaine's transition is used again to connect a standard end credit [2 secs drag back]

This might help, although it is a bit "busy".

Now PJ has answered the call and revealed a door CLOSE IS in captivity so here is a variation on the above. So please go to the PJ tutorial to get the details. So we have a door open to start the movie, a close to end the movie and an open again for the credits - just when you thought one door movement was enough!!

Here is a barn door variation

and you need this jpg as well, as it is the one that sits at reduced size on the main jpg, so this jpg is the first part of your movie. You never see it at full size so don't worry regarding the quality.

Here is a double open, double close [no details as yet as it will take some time to document]

To make it easier to use this title I have provided actual movie clips of the shutters performing open [at the very start] and close [at the very end], so it is left for you to do the window open transition, add the content of the movie and finally the window close transition, and add these movie files at both ends

Initial open shutters

Final close shutters

Cat's Heaven

Here is an open and close case for a cat's heaven. The collage is copyright to Warming and the 5 pictures of Luigi are copyright to Winn. I don't claim any copyright on the custom title, but I am sorry that I don't have time to document it at present, unless someone reeeeeeeeally wants it.

Wild West

Here is the custom title for The Legends of the Wild West series, showing the initial door open

The full movie has both open and shut at the end and can be seen at

Wild West

So here is what you need to use these titles, but first in case you don't already have the custom transitions here is a link from Considerate Guy to give barn doors open/close plus a single door open [and you can reverse that to right open and also do a close for both as a homework exercise - just to keep you on yer toes!!]

Go to the fifth item down and download "barn doors package". Once you have pasted them in the place CG suggests they should be added to your transitions in MovieMaker [once you restart].

Here is a screenie of the MM timeline

Please download this zip file and unzip the four files

Wild West zip

The custom title image saloon1.jpg goes in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared

The magnified image of the door saloondoor1.jpg goes anywhere and you import it into MM with your chosen movie clips

The two custom title xml files go in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
